What We Believe
As Episcopalians we believe that God has shown his love to us through the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Jesus is the Word of God, and it is in Him that we believe.
The grace of God, God’s love, is the center of our faith. Eternal life comes to us because of the grace of God through faith. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we are enabled to live in a manner that shows forth the love of God. We strive to make every activity of our church one that will strengthen each person in faith and bring each person more in tune with the presence of God.
The Revised Common Lectionary, Bible readings for the Church Year, is used in our worship at St. Stephen’s. We believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God. We engage with the word through our worship, the use of the Book of Common Prayer, and Christian Formation.
The Bible, along with reason and the teachings of those who have gone before us in the faith is the foundation of the Episcopal Church's teaching. Our understanding of the Bible is fallible, as is human reasoning and historical tradition; therefore, we welcome differing views and opinions, believing that God reveals Himself to people in different ways. Doubters and skeptics are welcome for we learn and grow when we seek and question. Diversity is a strength of our church. It is our goal as Christians to help each other grow in faith that shows itself through love. We grow together and help each other in becoming the very best we can be and the closest to the heart of God that is possible.
